How To Grill Avocado Successfully Unripe’s the Type
This is the most important part of the whole process, and the key to how to grill avocado: the avocado has to be slightly unripe!
The perfect avocado for grilling is not so unripe that it’s bright green on the outside, but also not so ripe that it’s soft or cushiony upon touch.
The grilling of an avocado is most effective if you can find one that is firm on the outside with a happy combination of blackish-greenish skin (more so the former than the latter). Ideally, you’re looking for an avocado that is about a day or two away from eating as is.
The Best Part About Grilling Avocados
Grilling an unripe avocado ripens them on the spot.
The implications of this are many.
Firstly, this means no more rotten avocados. By grilling them, you’ll be able to eat them before they even have a chance to brown. This saves you from the disappointment of opening up an avocado only to find it spotted and mushy, and likewise it ensures that you always get what you pay for: a satisfying, creamy avocado.
Plus, an added benefit of grilling the unripe avocado is that you will typically waste less avocado overall – no more cutting out the mushy and rotten parts.
After this, tell others how to grill avocado too, especially if you know someone who is constantly plagued by rotten avocados.
How Grilling Avocados Transforms Them
Once grilled, avocados undergo a couple of unique changes.
– They become even creamier than usual – more of a soft, velvety creaminess than a fresh one might be, texturally speaking.
– Grilled avocados simply taste toastier and more unctuous, which is saying a lot considering they’re already so amazing fresh.
– A grilled ‘cado is, in my opinion, more appealing temperature wise, too. I prefer the sensation of eating the warm slices of avocado to the colder slices of a fresh ‘cad.
Alternatives to Grilling ?
Okay, okay – I know that not everybody has a grill or has the space for a grill, or wants to bust out the grill on a rainy day.
But there are options for you. Here’s how to grill avocado in an alternative way – methods that work almost as well as a grill.
– Set your oven to broil, and lay the olive oil-coated avocados on a baking sheet on one of the top racks of the oven. This should get them similarly textured to on the grill, without the grill marks, of course. If you’re going to do this, consider quartering the avocado instead of halving it.
– Pan fry the avocado in a skillet over medium heat with a little bit of olive oil, until soft.
And as for air friers, I have no idea. It might do something interesting to the avocado, but what I couldn’t say. Someone try it, and let me know how it turns out.
