Hello! My name is Cameron – the creator of That Vegan Nephew.
I assume that you’re here to know more about me, or maybe you misclicked…either way, hello!
I’m an introverted piano player from the Pacific Northwest, and I like to express my creativity in the kitchen as much as at the keyboard (if you’re interested in hearing some of my compositions/music, check out my music youtube channel).
I started the Vegan thing in late 2016, encouraged to try it at the behest of a close friend. Even after having been vegetarian for several years, I had my doubts about whether or not I could sustain a plant-based diet. However, I didn’t find it as difficult as I had imagined it to be. I thought that most of the food would be bland and cardboard-y, or like something you’d feed to a rabbit.
But that’s not vegan food..at all!
What I discovered really was the opposite of all that. I discovered that plant-based food could be incredibly creative and exceptionally fun to make, as well as chock-full of dynamic flavors and textures and sensations. Sometimes it can be healthy, but it can also be indulgent. Sometimes it can be light and airy, and sometimes heavy and hearty.
In fact, I started cooking plant-based food, I actually began to enjoy preparing my own food quite a bit more than I ever had before. It was no longer a chore, but an exploration into uncharted territory. I’ve since found out that carrots could be bacon, chickpeas could be tuna fish, jackfruit could be a shredded meat, and hearts of palm (which I didn’t even know was a thing that existed), a delicious filet for a fish taco.
I throughly enjoyed making plant-based food so much that eventually I wanted to share it with more people. And so, at the end of 2019, I began this website with the sole purpose of communicating delicious, plant-based recipes with a wider audience, in the hopes that more people would be able to discover the the variety and the vivaciousness of vegan cuisine as I did.
My personal mantra about food is this: I believe that everyone deserves good food and good company, and it’s one of my passions in life to create recipes that reflect this gastronomic philosophy.
We need to eat food to live, and we need connection with others to feel alive, so why not combine them? It’s through collaboration, cooperation, and inclusion that we humans thrive and progress, as well as make true positive change in the world. It only makes sense that food can be the first step in that direction, since it’s something we have to think about, consider, and create everyday.
My aim is to publish recipes that everyone can make for or share with one another easily – recipes that are not only delicious, but also wholesome and more conscientious of the world around us and the other beings who also coexist on this planet alongside us.
Whoever you are, I believe that if you have an open-minded approach to what food can be, as well as the determination to explore it, then you can make and enjoy plant-based food without too much hassle or inconvenience or expense, and have a good time with others while eating or sharing or creating it.
Let’s contribute together to a world full of more camaraderie over good food that is gastronomically equivalent to a hearty belly laugh: nourishing, replenishing, and much needed!
In short, let’s make good food…in good company!
Sincerely,
That Vegan Nephew
Additional F.A.Q’s!
Why are there so many advertisements on your site?
I get it.. I really do. Nobody’s a fan of websites plastered with advertisements, and it’s not my intention that my site get to the point of total un-readability because of adverts. However, while the recipes on my site are free, running a food blog isn’t – there’s the price of the food, the equipment, the time, and the cost of the blog itself (subscriptions, plug-ins, internet service, ect.) It adds up quickly! Advertisements, while occasionally annoying, help me to pay for a lot of the blog, so that I continue posting delicious and free recipes for y’all.
Are you a full-time food blogger?
Nope! It’d be amazing if I could eventually get to the point where I could do this for a living, but for now it’s my passion project and side hustle. Meanwhile, I play and teach piano.
Do you do collaboration?
I don’t allow guest posting on my website, but I’ll consider featuring a sponsored product in one of my posts if it’s in alignment with my values, and if I enjoy the product itself. If you’re interested in collaborating, send me a message here!
What camera do you use?
My brother let me borrow his Canon Ti5, and I still haven’t given it back. Shhh, don’t tell him. I also use laminate paper backgrounds, a ring light, and various props for the photography aspect.
