Nacho-y Homemade Tortilla Chips Ingredients
- Flour tortillas
- Nutritional yeast
- Paprika
- Ground turmeric
- Sea salt
- Chili powder
- Garlic powder
- Ground mustard
- Olive oil
And there you have it. Just 9 ingredients until you have yourself some delicious and cheesy homemade tortilla chips.
Tips & Tricks: Grind the nutritional yeast and spices (turmeric, chili powder, garlic powder, ground mustard and sea salt) in a mortar or pestle or spice grinder. This will ensure the powder is fine enough to evenly coat the outside of your homemade tortilla chips well.
Tips & Tricks: You can substitute in corn tortillas for flour in this homemade tortilla chip recipe. I found that corn tortillas are more chewy and hard, and so not quite as “chip” like. However, this is a good option for people who are gluten intolerant.
How To Make Cheesy Homemade Tortilla Chips
- Stack two flour tortillas atop one another, and cut them both into 8 equal triangles, for a total of 16 chips.
- Crush the nutritional yeast and spices together in a mortar and pestle or spice grinder until it’s a very fine powder. Pour this out on a flat plate.
- Brush the tortilla triangles with a little bit of olive oil, and then coat each side well in the fine spice mix. Lay each coated chip on a lightly-greased baking sheet, a couple inches apart from one another.
- Bake the tortilla chips at 400°F for 3 – 4 minutes on each side, careful not to over-bake them and burn the spices.
- Remove the chips from the oven and let cool for a couple minutes. They will become crunchier as they cool.

Homemade Vegan Nacho Cheeze Chips
Equipment
- Mortar and Pestle, or spice grinder
- Baking Sheet
Ingredients
- 2 large flour tortillas, each cut into 8 even triangles
- 3 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- ¾ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon ground mustard
- 1 – 2 tablespoon(s) olive oil, for brushing tortilla chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Stack the tortillas on top of one another, and cut them into 8 even triangles, 16 chips in total.
- In a mortar and pestle or spice grinder, combine together the nutritional yeast, paprika, ground turmeric, sea salt, chili powder, garlic powder, and ground mustard. Crush or blend until it's a fine powder. Spread the powder out evenly on a flat plate.
- Brush each side of your tortilla triangles with a little bit of olive oil, then place them on the plate with the powdered spices, flipping them back and forth to coating each side well in the spice mix. Once done, transfer the chip to a lightly greased baking sheet. Once all the chips have been powdered, bake for 6 – 8 minutes, flipping halfway through (3 – 4 minutes on each side), until moderately crispy. Watch the chips closely, to prevent them from browning or burning too much (or the spices will become acrid and bitter).Let the chips cool slightly, and then enjoy with your favorite dip.

These are great and so crispy and crunchy without being too hard. Much better than a commercial chip. The recipe is easy to follow and the flavor is just right. A great accompaniment to anything Mexican or just a snack as is.Thanks TVN!
